Asset tracking
Asset tracking follows the equipment. Fleet tracking often follows the powered vehicle. The two overlap, but a dropped trailer needs its own device.
Definition
Asset tracking is the assignment of a locator to a physical item so that operations can answer where that item is, even when no driver and no tractor are attached. GPS is one method; barcodes, RFID, and Bluetooth tags are others. This site is concerned with GNSS plus cellular.
